American Express
American Express issues charge and credit cards and also operates as a bank. Its card statements are structured unlike a deposit account: there is no running balance to follow, so the figures are checked instead against the printed summary box — previous balance, payments and credits, new charges, closing balance. Payments and refunds are marked CR beside the amount, and a purchase made in another currency prints the foreign amount alongside the billed one.
